Shimano – Tranx 300B Baitcasting Reels

Description

The 2025 Shimano Tranx 300 B is a heavy-duty low-profile baitcaster built for anglers who want conventional-reel strength and line capacity in a reel that still casts and palms like modern casting tackle. Shimano’s CoreSolid Body integrates the frame, B-side plate and levelwind guard into an exceptionally rigid aluminum structure, while the HAGANE Body concept keeps flex to a minimum when the reel is heavily loaded. That rigidity lets the drivetrain do its job efficiently, and X-Ship supports the pinion gear to reduce friction and maintain smooth cranking power when a big striped bass, blackfish or bluefish turns the fight into a leverage contest.

The new B-generation Tranx is also significantly more refined on the cast. Shimano’s SVS Infinity MD Tune braking system gives anglers external, on-the-fly control over spool braking, making it easier to tune the reel for anything from bucktails and jigs to plugs, swimbaits and larger live-bait presentations. S3D spool construction and Super Free Spool further reduce vibration and spool-shaft friction, while S A-RB bearings and X-Protect add protection for regular saltwater use. Cross Carbon Drag provides 22 pounds of maximum drag in the 5.8:1 models and 18 pounds in the faster 7.6:1 HG versions.

For Northeast anglers, the model choice is straightforward. The 300B/301B pair use a 5.8:1 ratio, 31 inches of pickup and a shorter 51 mm handle, making them excellent choices for blackfish, deep fluke, heavy bucktailing, live bait and anglers who prefer a more controlled retrieve with the higher published drag rating. The 300HGB/301HGB jump to 7.6:1, 41 inches of line recovery and a longer 70 mm handle, making them ideal for quickly recovering slack while jigging, burning bucktails, casting plugs and working fast-moving striped bass or bluefish. With 300-size capacity, a rigid metal chassis and serious saltwater technology, the Tranx 300 B is one of the strongest choices for the Northeast angler who wants a compact casting reel that can legitimately replace a small conventional reel for many inshore applications.
