Daiwa – Saltiga Star Drag Reels

Description

The Daiwa Saltiga Star Drag is the kind of conventional reel that earns Top Shelf status by making almost every mechanical detail feel deliberate. Its precision-machined one-piece aluminum frame and sideplate create a rigid platform for Daiwa’s large-diameter DIGIGEAR drivetrain, while the compact narrow-spool architecture keeps the reel balanced over the rod instead of hanging off to one side like a bulky traditional conventional. The result is a reel that feels exceptionally refined in the hand but still has the structural authority for serious saltwater jigging, bait fishing and hard structure work.

The smaller 10 and 15 sizes add a Magsealed bearing at the pinion for another layer of saltwater protection, while the larger 20–50 models use eight CRBB corrosion-resistant ball bearings plus a roller bearing. Across the family, Daiwa’s ATD drag system is tuned for a smooth start-up and progressive pressure, and the Centriflex centrifugal brake system helps control spool speed without turning the reel into a heavily damped caster. The 10/15 platform is especially attractive for blackfish, fluke, sea bass and striped bass because it delivers premium materials, excellent freespool and a 39.5-inch high-speed retrieve in an exceptionally compact package. The 20 and 30 add line reserve while keeping the reel under 17 ounces, making them highly versatile for deep Northeast jigging and light-offshore duty.

The 35, 40 and 50 models are where the Saltiga Star Drag becomes a true heavy jigging and offshore tool. They increase max drag to 25 pounds, use larger egg-shaped power knobs and, in the H versions Port Tackle sells, recover a very fast 47.4 inches per crank. That combination is ideal for aggressive vertical jigging, deep-water structure work and pelagic fishing where rapid line recovery matters. For Port Tackle customers, the 35HA is the premium all-around heavy jigging choice, the 40HA adds more capacity for tuna and deep structure, and the 50HA is the maximum-capacity star-drag option for anglers who want nearly 850 yards of 40-pound braid without stepping into a lever-drag reel. Saltiga’s Executive 5-Year Warranty and free 5-Year Clean & Service program further separate it from ordinary conventional reels; this is a reel family aimed at anglers who expect premium feel, premium service and years of hard use.
