Description
The Shimano Ocea Jigger is a purpose-built star-drag jigging reel designed around the demands of vertical presentations rather than general-purpose conventional fishing. Shimano’s Infinity Drive system reduces friction between the pinion gear and spool shaft, cutting rotational resistance by up to 60 percent and giving the reel a remarkably light, powerful feel when winding against a loaded rod. That low-friction drivetrain is supported by a rigid HAGANE Body and MicroModule gearing, which keep gear engagement precise and help the reel maintain its smooth feel when an angler is repeatedly working jigs or gaining line on a fish directly beneath the boat.
The family gives Northeast anglers three distinct chassis sizes and both power- and high-gear personalities. The compact 1500 models weigh only 14.3 ounces and are ideal for fluke, blackfish, sea bass and lighter vertical jigging; the 2000NR models add substantially more line capacity and 22 pounds of drag for deeper water, heavier jigs and school-tuna applications; and the 4000 platform steps into true offshore jigging territory with 40 pounds of drag and up to 450 yards of 80-pound PowerPro. Within each size class, PG gearing favors controlled jig cadence and easier winding under load, while HG gearing increases line pickup for faster jig styles, deeper water and situations where quickly recovering slack is critical.
X-Protect shields key drivetrain areas from water intrusion, S A-RB bearings add saltwater resistance, and the Cross Carbon Drag provides a broad, durable range of star-drag pressure. Shimano also equips the Ocea Jigger with an Exciting Drag Sound, Spool Lock, cold-forged aluminum handle and clutch, Auto-Engage Clutch, and a two-position adjustable long-crank handle—features that are clearly aimed at anglers who spend entire trips jigging rather than occasionally dropping a lure. For Port Tackle customers, this is the reel to recommend when the goal is a dedicated, highly refined jigging setup: 1500 for inshore and lighter structure work, 2000NR for heavier slow-pitch and school tuna, and 4000 for serious deep-water and offshore jigging.
