Shimano – Tekota A Levelwind Star Drag Reels

Description

The Shimano Tekota A is a purpose-built levelwind conventional reel for anglers who value controlled line placement, durable saltwater construction and repeatable trolling or bottom-fishing performance more than casting-oriented features. Shimano rebuilt the Tekota around a rigid HAGANE Body, reinforced gearing and an ergonomic S-Compact profile, giving the reel a more solid feel under load while keeping it comfortable enough for all-day use. CoreProtect adds water resistance around critical areas, S A-RB shielded bearings improve protection against salt and grit, and Cross Carbon Drag provides smooth, durable pressure across a broad adjustment range.

The family covers a wide span of Northeast applications. The low-profile 300 and 400 models are line-counter reels with an integrated counter case, synchronized levelwind and anti-fog lens; the 300 uses a double-paddle handle for lighter controlled-depth trolling and bottom work, while the 400 adds capacity and a power handle. The 500 and 600 sizes step into traditional full-size Tekota territory with 24 pounds of max drag, 38 inches of pickup and enough braid capacity for striped-bass trolling, deep blackfish, wreck fishing, bluefish, live bait and heavier bottom-fishing. Standard and line-counter versions let the customer choose between a cleaner, lighter reel and precise depth/repeatability for trolling spreads.

The 800PG is the heavy-capacity model and intentionally changes personality: 3.9:1 gearing, 35 inches per crank, 35 pounds of max drag and up to 750 yards of 80-pound PowerPro. That lower gearing and larger spool make it a much better fit for heavy trolling, large stripers, sharks, deep bottom fishing and selected tuna applications than the faster 300–600 sizes. For Port Tackle customers, the Tekota A is especially easy to sell by function: 300/400 for compact line-counter precision, 500/600 as dependable Long Island workhorses, and 800PG when capacity and cranking leverage matter more than reel size.
